Advertising is communication intended to inform, educate, persuade, and remind individuals of your product or businesses. Advertising must work with other marketing tools and business elements to be successful. Advertising must be interruptive — that is, it must make you stop thumbing through the newspaper or thinking about your day long enough to read or hear the ad. Advertising must also be credible, unique, and memorable in order to work. Like all effective marketing support, it must be built upon a solid positioning strategy. Finally, for any advertising campaign, enough money must be spent to provide a media schedule for ad frequency, the most important element for ad memorability.

Advertisement storyboard
The exercises in this lesson introduce some of the elements of advertisements such as slogans. There is a discussion on where advertisements can be found. The concept of a storyboard is introduced and an example of a storyboard for an advert is examined in detail. In the final stage of the lesson, students are given the opportunity to produce their own storyboard to advertise a product. Extension tasks are also suggested.

Online safety for teenagers
It is important that online safety is discussed with teenagers who might not always be aware of dangers, especially in a world in which more and more young people are spending more and more time online. This lesson addresses the topic of online safety in a motivating way, allowing students to discuss issues, share their opinions and ideas and then do some online activities to finish the lesson or as a homework task. Students begin by writing some words the teacher dictates, then using them as prompts to guess the topic of the lesson. When the topic is established students read a poster about online safety. They do a pre-reading vocabulary activity and two comprehensive activities. If you have access to a data projector in your classroom you can show a video about internet safety, where the tips from the poster are introduced. The lesson concludes with a role-play activity. Students are given role cards with key information and language support. There are several links to extra activities on the LearnEnglish Teens website, which provide further

Mobile phones
In this lesson, students will talk about how they use their mobile phones, practice a dialogue of a phone conversation between two friends, role play some different phone conversations, and use abbreviations and text ‘code’ to write some text messages to each other. Finally, they will have a discussion about mobile phones and their use.

Branding and brand names
During this lesson students will rank their favourite brand names and discuss what they like/dislike about them. They will read and discuss the context of a text about brand naming and complete related vocabulary building exercises. Lastly students will create and brand their own imaginary product which they will present to the rest of the class
